NREC is a partner with the Illinois Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy that guides state efforts to reduce total phosphorus and total nitrogen loads by 45%, with interim targets of a 15% decrease in nitrate-nitrogen and a 25% decrease in phosphorus. The group meets periodically to discuss progress toward meeting the goals of the strategy and to update recommendations that are a result of research conducted by NREC and other stakeholders.
